Science Notebook

Why keep a Science Notebook?

A Science Notebook is much like a Portfolio kept by science students and includes: Class notes; Handouts; clear objectives; selective and significant pieces of work for study; students’ self-reflection pieces and evidence of student participation in selection of content.

The Guide to Classroom Assessment suggests beginning Science Notebooks (portfolio) assessment at the beginning of the year, reviewing the contents of each portfolio on a regular basis (every month or two), meeting with students on a regular basis to review and discuss each student’s work (1-4 times a year).
